Pan Masala Heiress Dies by Suicide in Delhi Home

New Delhi: Three days after a tragic incident at a prominent Vasant Vihar residence, Delhi Police has taken significant action in the case involving the death of a pan masala baron's daughter-in-law. Deepti Chaurasia, 38, allegedly died by suicide on Tuesday around noon in her dressing room, sparking a police investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.

Police Register FIR Following Mother's Complaint

The situation escalated when the victim's mother filed a formal complaint, leading Delhi Police to register a First Information Report against Deepti's husband, Arpit Chaurasia, and her mother-in-law. The case has been filed under sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

DCP (southwest) Amit Goel confirmed the development, stating that while no suicide note was discovered during the initial investigation, police officials seized a personal diary that contained revealing entries. According to sources, the diary contained Deepti's writings about her relationship with her husband and expressed concerns about the lack of love and trust in their marriage.

Family Allegations and Counter Claims

The victim's brother has come forward with serious allegations against the husband and his family. He claimed that Deepti had been suffering from abuse for years and that her husband had contracted another marriage. "Her husband was abusing her for years. He also had another marriage," the brother stated.

He further elaborated that when the family learned about the abuse, they brought Deepti back to their home. However, her in-laws persuaded them to send her back, promising to treat her "like their own daughter." Following this assurance, Arpit reportedly separated from the other woman, but the problems persisted.

In a disturbing revelation, the brother alleged that both Arpit and his mother physically assaulted Deepti on multiple occasions. "Last year, my sister again complained about Arpit's behaviour and returned to us," he added, indicating this wasn't an isolated incident of marital discord.

However, the Chaurasia family's legal representative, Rajinder Singh, presented a contrasting narrative. He refuted the allegations as unfounded and claimed that the couple had been living happily for 15 years and had two children together. The lawyer also stated that Arpit was away at the gym when the tragic incident occurred.

Police had initially started an inquest into the matter but upgraded their investigation following the formal complaint from Deepti's mother, who accused the family members of consistently harassing and torturing her daughter.

Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings

The case continues to develop as Delhi Police intensifies its investigation into the circumstances leading to the tragic death. The seizure of the diary has become a crucial element in understanding the victim's state of mind and the dynamics of her marital relationship.

As the legal process unfolds, the case has drawn attention to domestic issues within affluent families and the importance of addressing marital discord and mental health concerns. The police investigation remains active, with authorities examining all evidence and statements to determine the complete sequence of events that led to this unfortunate incident.
