Sitapur Police Register FIR Against Man for Threatening UP Minister Suresh Rahi

Police in Sitapur district have officially registered a First Information Report (FIR) against a man accused of threatening Uttar Pradesh Minister of State for Prisons, Suresh Rahi. The accused allegedly made threatening phone calls, demanded money, and posted defamatory remarks about the minister on social media platforms.

Incident Details and Police Action

The FIR was formally registered on Sunday, although the incident gained public attention on Monday evening. According to the complaint filed at the Kotwali Dehat Police Station, the accused, identified as Kuldeep Tiwari from Kasimpur village in Sitapur, called Minister Suresh Rahi on March 13 at approximately 12:15 PM.

During the phone conversation, Tiwari reportedly told the minister that if the call was not answered within ten minutes, "something wrong could happen." When Minister Rahi inquired about the meaning of this statement, Tiwari allegedly referenced a Facebook post where he questioned whether the minister should meet the same fate as an individual named Rakesh Rathore.

Demands and Threats Made by the Accused

The complaint further details that Tiwari complained about not having a cooking gas cylinder and demanded that the minister arrange one immediately. When Minister Rahi explained that procedural issues and ongoing supply problems prevented issuing cylinders without an OTP, Tiwari allegedly responded in a threatening tone.

  • He stated he would obtain the cylinder "from anywhere" and hinted at potential consequences for the minister.
  • The accused also posted abusive and defamatory comments about Minister Rahi on his Facebook account, which the complainant asserted damaged the minister's public reputation in the region.

Previous Encounter and Extortion Attempt

The FIR also mentions an earlier incident on March 10, when Tiwari allegedly met the minister's associate, Lovkush Shukla, during the funeral of the father of senior journalist Neeraj Srivastava.

  1. During this meeting, Tiwari claimed to be a journalist and demanded Rs 20,000 per month from the minister through Shukla.
  2. When this demand was refused, he allegedly warned that it would not be "good for the minister" to deny the payment.

Criminal Background and Police Investigation

Police sources have revealed that the accused has a prior criminal background. In the past, he was allegedly arrested after stolen motorcycles were recovered from his possession, for which he served jail time.

Based on the written complaint submitted by the minister's office secretary, Suresh, police at Kotwali Dehat registered a case against Tiwari. The charges include:

  • Criminal intimidation
  • Extortion attempt
  • Posting objectionable content on social media

Additional Superintendent of Police for Sitapur, Alok Kumar Singh, confirmed that a probe has been conducted and stated that the accused will be arrested. The investigation is ongoing to gather further evidence and ensure appropriate legal action is taken.
