A fire broke out in the electric meter of a private kidney hospital in southwest Delhi's Dabri on Sunday night, leading to the evacuation of around 10-15 patients. The incident occurred at approximately 10:27 pm, prompting a PCR call to the Sagarpur police station and a simultaneous alert to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS).
Response and Evacuation
Four fire tenders with around 24 fire personnel and approximately 15 police officers rushed to the spot, along with PCR vans and CATS ambulance teams. Upon arrival, officials found that the hospital staff had already extinguished the fire using fire extinguishers. The hospital administration, with assistance from security guards and local residents, evacuated the patients present at the time of the incident. Some security guards deployed on the rear side of the hospital rushed to the front to help. Residents reportedly broke open a lock on the rear gate using a hammer to facilitate a quick evacuation.
Cause and Damage
A preliminary inquiry revealed that the blaze was caused by a short circuit in the electricity meter and panel. Fire officials noted that the junction box was located on the ground floor of the five-storey building. Due to the electrical nature of the fire, BSES officials also arrived at the scene. The fire was completely doused by 10:40 pm. No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.
The swift response by hospital staff, security personnel, and locals ensured the safety of all patients. The Delhi Fire Service and police have initiated further investigations to prevent such incidents in the future.
