A sudden fire erupted in the Tolichowki area of Hyderabad, close to the iconic Qutb Shahi Tombs, in the early hours of Saturday, causing significant alarm among residents. The blaze, which started at approximately 3 am, was reportedly ignited by a short circuit at an electricity substation situated near the historic site.
Rapid Spread and Evacuation Efforts
The flames quickly extended from the substation to a nearby tyre shop, resulting in an intense and sudden conflagration. At the time of the incident, nearly 300 individuals were inside a neighboring mosque, engaged in Ramzan prayers. Worshippers and local residents promptly evacuated the premises as the fire intensified, ensuring a swift and orderly exit.
Upon receiving alerts, fire engines from the Punjagutta and Filmnagar stations rushed to the scene. Firefighters worked diligently to bring the blaze under control, successfully containing it after concerted efforts.
Property Damage and Safety Measures
According to Inspector P Saidulu, the fire caused considerable property damage, though fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported. The exact extent of the financial loss is still being assessed by authorities. As a precautionary step, electricity supply to the surrounding areas was temporarily suspended while emergency teams managed the situation. Power was later restored once the fire was fully extinguished and deemed safe.
Investigation and Preliminary Findings
Police have registered a case and launched a thorough investigation into the incident. Preliminary findings indicate that the fire originated from a short circuit at the electricity substation, which then spread to the adjacent tyre shop. Authorities are continuing their inquiry to determine the full sequence of events and evaluate the overall damage in detail.
