Worker Severely Injured in Firecracker Explosion at Dharmapuri Poultry Farm

A dangerous incident unfolded in Dharmapuri district on Sunday evening when a batch of firecrackers stored in a poultry farm shed exploded, leaving a worker with severe injuries. The explosion occurred near Papparapatty, causing significant damage and raising serious safety concerns.

Details of the Incident and Property Damage

Preliminary police investigations have revealed that the poultry farm is owned by K Ashok Kumar, a resident of Pudur village near Pennagaram in Dharmapuri district. Authorities discovered that Ashok Kumar also operates a firecracker factory in Maruveetupallam near Papparapatty. He had stored a consignment of firecrackers in a shed on his poultry farm premises, a decision that proved catastrophic.

On Sunday evening, when one of the workers from the firecracker factory visited the shed, the firecrackers exploded suddenly and without warning. The force of the blast was so intense that it completely destroyed the shed, scattering debris and causing alarm in the vicinity. Police officials from the Papparapatty station confirmed the extensive structural damage in their initial reports.

Worker's Condition and Ongoing Police Investigation

The injured worker has been identified as Mathesh, a 40-year-old man originally from Kumbakonam. He sustained severe burn injuries across his body and also suffered a fractured leg in the violent explosion. Mathesh was immediately rushed to the government hospital in Dharmapuri, where he is currently receiving intensive medical care. His condition remains critical as doctors work to stabilize him.

In response to the incident, the Papparapatty police have registered a formal case and launched a thorough investigation. Authorities are examining the circumstances that led to the storage of firecrackers in an agricultural shed, as well as potential violations of safety regulations. The investigation aims to determine liability and prevent similar accidents in the future, highlighting the risks associated with improper handling and storage of explosive materials.
