Firecracker-Laden Lorry Catches Fire Near Hyderabad; Drivers Escape Unhurt
A major fire erupted on Saturday when a lorry loaded with firecrackers caught flames near Manikyammaguda, under the jurisdiction of the Kothuru police station in Rangareddy district, Hyderabad. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported as the two drivers managed to escape the vehicle in time, averting a potential tragedy.
Timely Escape Prevents Loss of Life
The drivers, identified as Ayyappan and Sattivel, noticed the fire breaking out and quickly jumped from the lorry, ensuring their safety. Police officials from Kothuru station rushed to the scene upon receiving information about the incident. A fire engine was immediately deployed, and firefighters worked diligently to bring the blaze under control.
According to fire officials, the emergency call was received at 12:45 pm, and the fire was successfully contained after approximately one and a half hours of intense efforts.
Electrical Origin Suspected in Fire
Preliminary investigations point to an electrical cause for the fire. Nagarjuna, the station fire officer in Maheshwaram, stated, "The preliminary investigation suggests that the fire was of electrical origin after the vehicle came into contact with an overhead high-tension wire."
He added that coordination with power department authorities led to a temporary halt in electricity supply in the area, as overhead wires were present near the accident site. This precautionary measure helped prevent a more severe mishap.
Transport Details and Aftermath
The lorry was transporting firecrackers from Sivakasi, a major hub for fireworks manufacturing in Tamil Nadu, to destinations including Maheshwaram and Nizamabad when the fire broke out. Due to the intensity of the flames, the lorry and dry grass along the roadside were completely burnt.
Authorities later used JCB machines and cranes to remove the damaged vehicle from the road and clear the debris. Traffic movement was restored smoothly once the area was cleared, and further inquiry into the incident is currently underway.
Damage Assessment and Ongoing Investigation
Damage assessment is still in process, as the lorry owner is based in Tamil Nadu and the staff involved are from different locations. Police and fire officials continue to investigate the exact circumstances leading to the fire to ensure such incidents are prevented in the future.
This incident highlights the risks associated with transporting hazardous materials and underscores the importance of safety measures and quick emergency responses in preventing casualties.
