In the wake of recent unrest during Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations, police in Agra and Kasganj have taken decisive action by filing First Information Reports (FIRs) to address the incidents. Agra Incident: Youths Climb Religious Structure, Prompting Police Response
In Agra, tensions escalated on Wednesday when a group of youths, carrying blue flags, scaled the top of Parshuram Chowk located in the Sikandra police station area. This site holds significant public faith as it features a structure symbolizing a weapon associated with Lord Parshuram, making the act particularly sensitive. Police swiftly intervened to bring the situation under control, preventing further escalation.
According to sources, an FIR has been officially registered at the Sikandra police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Agra Assistant Commissioner of Police Mayank Tiwari stated, "The matter has been taken into cognisance, and an FIR has been filed. The accused are being identified, and further action will be taken. CCTV footage of the area is also being examined." This underscores the police's commitment to thorough investigation and accountability in the case.
Kasganj Unrest: Stone-Pelting and Injuries During Procession
Meanwhile, in Kasganj, two separate FIRs have been filed at the Sahawar police station in connection with violent clashes that erupted during an Ambedkar Jayanti procession on Tuesday evening. The FIR lodged by Sahawar Station House Officer Govind Ballabh Sharma details that when the procession entered a locality inhabited by a specific community, individuals allegedly began pelting stones from rooftops, leading to chaos.
The situation deteriorated as the mob engaged in scuffles with police personnel, resulting in the SHO's uniform being torn. At least three people, including a police officer, sustained injuries during the incident, highlighting the severity of the violence. Kasganj Superintendent of Police OP Singh confirmed, "At least 36 named and 15 unidentified persons have been booked in the FIR, and 23 people have been taken into custody under sections related to rioting (BNS 191), among others." This indicates a robust legal response to the unrest.
