Police Crack Nellore Double Murder Case with Five Arrests
In a significant development, police in Tirupati have apprehended five accused in connection with a high-profile double murder case that occurred near Gandavaram village in Kodavalur mandal of Nellore district on March 27. The investigation has revealed that the brutal killings were driven by a combination of an extramarital affair and a long-standing feud, shedding light on the motives behind this tragic incident.
Details of the Victims and Accused
The victims have been identified as Kandurthi Venkatesh, aged 29, and his cousin Koppala Bala Ankaiah. Both were residents of Pedda Puthedu and Kagulapadu villages, located in Dagadarthi and Buchireddipalem mandals, respectively. According to Nellore rural DSP G Srinivas Rao, the five individuals arrested in this case are all from Pedda Puthedu village. They include B Prashanth Kumar, 31; B Kalyan Kumar, 34; B Vijaya Bhaskar, 48; B Sai Prakash, 28; and B Seenaiah, 53.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Murders
Police reports indicate that on the late hours of March 29, B Prashanth Kumar and his accomplices ambushed Kandurthi Venkatesh as he was returning home near Gandavaram village. The attackers used blunt weapons to assault him indiscriminately. In a horrifying turn of events, they also targeted Venkatesh's cousin, Bala Ankaiah, resulting in both victims being killed on the spot. Following the double murder, the accused switched off their mobile phones and fled the scene to evade capture.
Police Investigation and Evidence Recovery
Based on a formal complaint filed by the deceased's brother, K Balu, the Kodavalur police registered a case and launched a thorough investigation. Their efforts led to the apprehension of all five accused involved in this heinous crime. During the arrest, police seized crucial evidence from the possession of the accused, including two steel rods, a knife, and two bikes. These items are believed to have been used in the commission of the murders.
