Five killed, two injured in Rajkot highway crash

Rajkot: Five persons were killed and two others suffered serious injuries when their car crashed into a dumper truck on the Morbi-Halvad Highway near Halvad in Morbi district on Friday night.

Details of the Accident

The accident took place near Charadwa village around 9.30pm when the dump truck was crossing the highway, a Halvad police official said. The impact left the car severely mangled and rescuers had to use an excavator to extricate the occupants trapped inside the wreckage.

Of the seven persons in the car, three died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries at a hospital in Rajkot late on Friday night. The remaining two injured persons were shifted to a Rajkot hospital and are undergoing treatment.

Victims Identified

Among the deceased was 24-year-old Paresh Dhadheya, who had earlier suffered injuries in a motorcycle accident and was being taken to a hospital when the crash occurred. The other deceased were identified as Premji Dhadheya, Suresh Dhadheya (47), Viram Dhadheya (28) and Bharat Dhadheya (39).

Police have launched an investigation into the accident.
