Kottayam: Five police officers, including the gunman of former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who are accused in the Nava Kerala assault case, were released on Saturday after being issued a notice stating that they must appear before the investigation team again. Without recording the arrest and without conducting evidence collection, S Anilkumar, S Sandeep, V K Shaiju, R Arun, and V V Vipin, who are the first to fifth accused in the case, were released.
The notice given contained the instruction that they must appear at any time if the investigation team demands. Although the question of whether there was any instruction from anyone's part to get down from the vehicle and to carry out the assault at the scene was repeated on the third day too, the reply was not satisfactory. The move is to collect and examine details, including phone call records of the accused on the day of the incident.
Gunman Anilkumar, who came out after questioning, said he appeared as per the court's instruction and that he had fully cooperated with the investigation.
