In a significant crackdown on the narcotics trade, the Bengaluru City Police's Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested a foreign national and confiscated a large consignment of drugs with an estimated street value of ₹2.5 crore.
Major Drug Haul in Bengaluru Apartment
The operation, which unfolded on Thursday, March 20, 2025, led authorities to an apartment in the upscale Hulimavu area of Bengaluru. Acting on specific intelligence, a CCB team raided the location and apprehended the suspect, identified as Micheal Okafor, a 35-year-old Nigerian national.
During a thorough search of the premises, officers discovered a substantial quantity of illegal substances. The seized narcotics included 1.2 kilograms of MDMA (commonly known as Ecstasy) and 150 grams of cocaine. Police officials stated that the drugs were likely intended for distribution within the city's party and club circuit.
Investigation and International Links
The CCB has launched a detailed investigation to unravel the entire supply chain. Preliminary inquiries suggest that the accused, Micheal Okafor, was operating as a key node in an international drug trafficking network. Investigators are now working to identify his local contacts, suppliers, and customers within India.
"The seizure and arrest are a major blow to the drug peddling network in the city," a senior police officer commented. The focus is now on tracing the origins of the contraband and understanding the financial transactions involved. Authorities are examining the suspect's visa status and his duration of stay in India to build a comprehensive case.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Vigilance
The accused has been booked under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He was produced before a local court, which has remanded him to police custody for further interrogation. The CCB's narcotics wing is spearheading the probe.
This bust is part of the Bengaluru police's intensified drive against the drug menace, especially targeting high-value dealers and international links. The police have urged citizens to report any suspicious activities related to drug peddling, assuring confidentiality. The successful operation highlights the continued vigilance of law enforcement agencies in maintaining Bengaluru's safety and security.
