Jamshedpur: A 44-year-old former deputy panchayat chief was shot dead by unidentified assailants while he was asleep on the porch of his house at Guigaon village in West Singhbhum district early on Monday, police said. The deceased was identified as Sanjay Boipoi.
Victim's Background
Boipoi, former upmukhiya of the Gulkera panchayat, was actively involved in public welfare initiatives, sources said. A farmer by profession, he is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Details of the Incident
Preliminary investigation revealed that armed assailants arrived on a motorcycle, barged into the house, and shot at Boipoi from close range, killing him on the spot. They then fled the scene. Upon hearing gunshots, neighbours rushed to the house and alerted the police.
Police Response
Officers arrived shortly after to take custody of the body. Syed Mustafa Hashmi, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Chakradharpur range, stated that a property dispute is suspected as the motive for the murder but further probe is underway.
Investigation Progress
Police are yet to ascertain the exact number of individuals involved in the crime but two suspects have been detained for questioning, said sources. Boipoi's body was sent to Chakradharpur Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination.
