A former National Security Guard (NSG) commando was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Manesar, Haryana, late Tuesday night. The victim, identified as 45-year-old Ramesh Kumar, was a resident of the area and had served in the elite counter-terrorism unit for over a decade before retiring a few years ago.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, the incident took place around 10:30 PM when Ramesh Kumar was returning home from a nearby market. Two motorcycle-borne assailants intercepted him and fired multiple shots at point-blank range. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Local residents rushed Kumar to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
Investigation Underway
Senior police officials, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of the region, visited the crime scene. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Police are examining CCTV footage from the area and questioning witnesses to identify the assailants. Preliminary investigations suggest a possible personal vendetta, though no concrete motive has been established yet.
Family and Community in Shock
The news of the murder has sent shockwaves through the local community and among former NSG personnel. Ramesh Kumar is survived by his wife and two teenage children. His family stated that he had no known enemies and had been leading a quiet life after retirement. The NSG veterans' association has condemned the killing and urged the police to expedite the investigation.
