Land Dispute Erupts into Fatal Violence in Sirsa Village
A tragic incident unfolded in Khokhar village of Sirsa district on Sunday, where a long-standing land dispute escalated into a deadly confrontation, claiming the lives of two individuals and leaving three others injured. The victims have been identified as Jarmal Singh, a 42-year-old former sarpanch of the village, and his 22-year-old nephew, Diljit Singh.
Details of the Violent Altercation
According to preliminary police reports, the clash occurred when Jarmal Singh, accompanied by family members including Diljit Singh, visited the residence of Jaswant Singh in the morning. The visit was related to an ongoing dispute over a 2-kanal parcel of family land. An argument quickly broke out between the two parties, which soon intensified into a physical fight.
During the scuffle, members of Jaswant Singh's family allegedly attacked Jarmal Singh and Diljit Singh with sharp-edged weapons, inflicting severe injuries. Both victims were rushed to a hospital in Kalanwali but succumbed to their wounds during treatment, highlighting the brutality of the assault.
Injuries and Police Response
In addition to the fatalities, three individuals from the opposing side—Jaswant Singh, Bikkar Singh, and Mauti Singh—sustained injuries in the clash and were admitted to the hospital for medical care. Upon receiving information, a team from the Kalanwali police station promptly arrived at the scene to initiate an investigation.
The police have taken the bodies into custody for a post-mortem examination and are currently recording statements from both parties involved. Root Cause of the Dispute
Nanak Singh, a relative of the deceased, provided insight into the origins of the conflict. He explained that the dispute stemmed from a transaction involving the 2-kanal land. According to his account, a relative had agreed to sell the land and accepted an advance payment, which was returned within a few hours. However, the prospective buyer allegedly accused Jarmal Singh of obstructing the sale, creating tension between the families that ultimately boiled over into violence.
