Former TMC MLA Sujoy Hazra Arrested in Kolkata for Extortion

Kolkata: Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Sujoy Hazra was taken into custody on Sunday over allegations of extortion and forgery. The arrest followed a complaint that he had taken money for housing construction but failed to deliver the promised houses.

Allegations of Fraud and Extortion

According to public prosecutor Najim Habib, in 2021, Sujoy Hazra accepted Rs 10 lakh from a complainant named Imran for the construction of a house. However, he neither completed the construction nor returned the money. Despite repeated demands, Hazra refused to comply.

Residents reportedly hurled eggs at a police vehicle carrying the TMC leader, expressing their anger over the alleged fraud. The incident highlights the growing frustration among victims of such schemes.
