In a serious incident of trespass and assault, the Ernakulam Rural Police have taken four individuals into custody. The group is accused of forcefully entering a residence and violently attacking a woman, leaving her injured.
Details of the Arrest and the Accused
The police action took place on Tuesday, following the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) by the North Paravur police. The arrested persons have been identified as Rishali Kallingal (24) from Kakkad, Kozhikode; Alan Vazhapparambil (23) from Kadavanthra; Mithun alias Mithun Shanti (29) from North Paravur; and Siraj alias Ambadi (19) from Tripunithura. The police team successfully apprehended the accused from Thrikkodithanam in Kottayam district.
Chronology of the Violent Attack
The disturbing event unfolded in the early hours of Monday at a rented house located in Kalikulangara. The victim, 25-year-old Roshni from Kanjiramkulam, Thiruvananthapuram, was allegedly targeted over pre-existing personal disputes.
According to the police complaint, the assault was brutal. One of the accused reportedly struck Roshni on the head with a glass bottle, causing significant injuries. The investigation has revealed multiple potential motives behind the attack. The complainant stated that she owed a sum of money to the accused, Alan. Furthermore, an earlier altercation where Rishali sustained a hand injury from a kitchen tool was also a contributing factor. Roshni also claimed that the accused held a grudge against her because she refrained from using intoxicants.
Police Investigation and Other Law & Order Actions
The investigation into this case was led by Munambam DSP S Jayakrishnan. The team included Inspector Shojo Varghese, Sub-Inspector Ranjith Mathew, and senior civil police officers Cinto, Lijo Philip, Aneesh, and Abhilash.
In a separate but related action under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act (Kaapa), a habitual offender has been externed from Ernakulam rural police limits. Vignesh (30), from Alangad, faces charges in numerous crimes including theft, robbery, trespass, assault, and threats. The six-month externment order was issued by Ernakulam Range DIG Satheesh Bino based on a report from Rural District Police Chief M Hemalatha. This action followed his involvement in a case where he allegedly trespassed into a house in Thattanpadi with a machete and threatened the family in August.
Unsuccessful ATM Robbery Attempt in Mattancherry
In another incident highlighting law and order challenges, an unidentified man attempted to rob an ATM kiosk under Mattancherry police station limits early Tuesday. The attempt occurred around 2:30 AM at an Indian Overseas Bank ATM. The individual tampered with surveillance cameras and cut the wires of the interior lights. However, his efforts to forcibly open the cash machine were unsuccessful, and he fled the scene without obtaining any money.
