Four Men Arrested in Ganjam District for Assault Over Theft Allegations

In a disturbing incident in Ganjam district, four individuals have been apprehended by authorities for their alleged involvement in a violent assault on a 45-year-old woman, her son, and two of his friends. The arrests were made on Wednesday, following a complaint filed by the victim after the group was tied to electric poles in Bhetanai village under the jurisdiction of the Kotinada police station.

Details of the Arrest and Accused

The accused have been identified as Santosh Kumar Sethy (24), his brother Sushant Sethy, Sankar Sethy (38), and Naresh Kumar Sethy (35), all residents of Bhetanai village. According to police reports, the arrests were based on the woman's formal complaint and prima facie evidence gathered from the scene. Damodar Bihari, the inspector in-charge at Kotinada police station, confirmed the detentions, stating that efforts are underway to trace other individuals potentially involved in the assault.

Chronology of the Assault Incident

The assault unfolded on Tuesday when a group of villagers forcibly entered the woman's residence. Allegedly, they dragged out her son and his two friends, who were visiting at the time, subjected them to physical violence, and then tied them to nearby electric poles. When the woman attempted to intervene and protect the victims, she too was restrained and tied to the same pole. The situation escalated until other villagers intervened, rescuing the victims and enabling the woman to lodge a First Information Report (FIR) with the police.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about vigilante justice and community violence in rural areas, prompting calls for increased police vigilance and public awareness. Authorities are continuing their investigation to ensure all perpetrators are held accountable and to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
