Tragedy Strikes Harsul Lake: Four Lives Lost in Separate Drowning Incidents

In a devastating series of events, four individuals tragically lost their lives in two separate drowning incidents at Harsul lake, located near Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, on Sunday afternoon. Authorities, including police and fire brigade officials, confirmed the fatalities, which have sent shockwaves through the local community.

Teenagers and Rescuer Drown in Afternoon Mishap

The first incident occurred around 3:30 PM when two teenagers, identified as Afan Khan Ismail Khan (17) and Shaikh Adil Shaikh Mohsin (13), both residents of Beri Bag near Harsul, entered the lake from the Jambhulban side. According to officials, the area is known to be marshy with deep water ahead, and the teens likely failed to gauge the hazardous local conditions, leading to their drowning.

In a heroic but tragic attempt to save the teenagers, an unidentified man entered the water and also drowned. Fire brigade personnel swiftly responded, recovering the bodies of all three individuals within minutes. The identity of the rescuer remains unknown, with police sending photos to various stations in an effort to ascertain his details.

Suspected Suicide Adds to the Tragedy

Minutes after the initial incident, another man, identified as Yash Sandeep Dehade, a resident of Siddharth Nagar, fell from the crest of the lake in what is suspected to be a suicide bid. He drowned before the rescue team could reach him. Vaibhav Bakade, the duty officer with the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation's fire brigade, provided this information, highlighting the rapid succession of events.

Head constable Khushal Nikam noted that a mobile phone found in Dehade's pocket helped trace his family through contact numbers, aiding in the identification process. The police have registered separate cases of accidental deaths for all four drowning incidents, with investigations ongoing to determine the exact circumstances.

Community and Authorities Respond

The incidents have underscored the dangers of the Harsul lake area, particularly the Jambhulban side, which is described as treacherous due to its marshy terrain and unpredictable water depths. Authorities are urging caution and increased safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

As the community mourns the loss of these lives, the police continue their efforts to identify the unknown rescuer and provide closure to the affected families. This tragic day serves as a stark reminder of the importance of water safety and vigilance in natural settings.
