Chandigarh: The UT Police have registered a case against four women for allegedly assaulting a police team, obstructing them from performing their duties, and forcibly freeing a suspect from police custody.

Incident Details

In a complaint filed by Sub-Inspector Jaswinder Singh of the Anti Narcotics Task Force, Sector 11, it was stated that he was patrolling Sector 28 with his team when they received a tip-off about Sunny, a resident of Bapudham, Sector 26, heading to the area to sell drugs. The police team proceeded to the slip road in Sector 26 and spotted Sunny arriving on a scooter. When they attempted to apprehend him, he abandoned the scooter and tried to flee but was caught.

Alleged Assault and Rescue

The complainant alleged that the suspect's wife and other female family members appeared at the scene and misbehaved with the police. They reportedly vandalized the police vehicle and assaulted the officers with stones. Personnel from the PCR also arrived at the location. As the police proceeded towards the Bapu Dham police post with the suspect, his family members and associates allegedly followed the police vehicle and blocked its path by parking motorcycles in front of Khalsa College, Sector 26.

The complainant further stated that the group attempted to pull Sunny out of the vehicle, causing a traffic jam. Suspect Sunny's mother Sheela, his wife Jyoti, and acquaintances Reena, Shilpa, and Naina, along with other associates, allegedly assaulted and scuffled with the police officers. During the scuffle, Sub-Inspector Jaswinder Singh and two female police officers sustained injuries.

The crowd forcibly freed Sunny from police custody, placed him on a motorcycle, and fled from the scene. A case has been registered against Shilpa, Jyoti, Naina, and Reena under relevant sections of the BNS.
