Gadchiroli Police Facilitates Sterilization Reversal for 14 Surrendered Maoists
In a significant rehabilitation initiative, the Gadchiroli Police has facilitated sterilization reversal surgeries for 14 surrendered Maoists, all aged between 23 and 40 years. This effort is designed to support their transition into stable family lives as they rejoin mainstream society after leaving insurgency.
Encouraging Results from Previous Surgeries
Police officials report that the initiative has shown encouraging outcomes. Of the 36 surrendered Maoists who previously underwent sterilization reversal surgeries, 13 have since had children. With the latest procedures conducted on March 21, the total number of beneficiaries has now risen to 50.
Medical experts indicate that the surgery success rate is approximately 40%. Patients can typically start family planning within the next three months, though sexual activity may resume after a 72-hour healing period.
Background and Surgical Details
According to officials, these sterilization reversal surgeries are intended to help surrendered Maoists socially reintegrate. During their time in the insurgency, personal choices and opportunities were often denied, with many forced to undergo vasectomy procedures.
The recent surgeries were performed at SEARCH Foundation's Maa Danteshwari Hospital in Chatgaon, located in Dhanora tehsil. The beneficiaries included 13 surrendered cadres from Gadchiroli district and one from Gondia district. All patients were discharged on March 24 following successful procedures conducted in a safe environment under expert medical supervision.
