In a significant crackdown, police stations under the Trans Hindon zone in Ghaziabad have successfully recovered 246 mobile phones that were reported as lost or stolen. The devices, with an estimated total value of ₹65 lakh, were traced and returned to their rightful owners thanks to the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal.
How CEIR Tracking Led to Swift Recovery
Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Trans Hindon zone, Nimish Patil, provided details on the operation. He stated that out of the recovered devices, 243 were reported as lost, while only three were registered as stolen on the CEIR system. The portal's nationwide tracking capability proved crucial, as the phones were recovered from various states including Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Delhi-NCR.
"Once a device is registered on the CEIR portal, it is immediately flagged for tracking," explained DCP Patil. "If the phone is switched on in any state, it sends an alert to the system. Our police teams then coordinate with officials in different states to locate and recover the device." He emphasized that many phones were found within just two or three days of being registered on the portal, showcasing the system's efficiency.
Police Station-Wise Recovery Performance
The recovery operation saw participation from several police stations in the zone. A breakdown of the recoveries is as follows:
- Kaushambi police station led the effort with 69 recovered phones.
- Indirapuram recovered 61 devices.
- Khoda police retrieved 31 phones.
- Shalimar Garden recovered 26 phones.
- Sahibabad accounted for 25 recoveries.
- Link Road police station found 23 phones.
- Tilamod recovered 11 devices.
When analyzed by recovery percentage, Shalimar Garden police station performed the best, successfully tracing 65% of the phones reported lost in its area. Tilamod police station followed closely with a 59% recovery rate.
Public Urged to Report Losses Immediately
Highlighting the success of the initiative, DCP Nimish Patil issued an advisory to the public. He urged people to immediately approach their local police station and file a report on the CEIR portal if they lose any device, be it a mobile phone or a laptop. Prompt registration increases the chances of a swift recovery by activating the pan-India tracking system.
This recovery drive underscores the effectiveness of the CEIR portal as a tool for law enforcement and a vital service for citizens. It demonstrates how technology, combined with inter-state police coordination, can deliver tangible results and restore valuable property to its owners.
