A horrific crime has shaken the city of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, where a couple allegedly murdered their 65-year-old landlady following a dispute over rent, then dismembered her body and attempted to dispose of the remains packed inside a suitcase. The gruesome incident came to light on Tuesday, leading to the swift arrest of the accused tenants.
The Dispute and the Deadly Assault
The victims have been identified as Omkar Singh (70) and his wife Savitri (65), residents of Shyam Park Colony in Ghaziabad's Muradnagar area. The accused, Rohit (25) and his wife Anu (22), were tenants living on the ground floor of the couple's house. According to police reports, the trigger for the violence was a demand for pending rent. Savitri had asked the couple to clear their dues and vacate the premises.
This demand allegedly led to a heated argument on Monday. In a fit of rage, Rohit and Anu are accused of first attacking Savitri. When Omkar Singh tried to intervene and save his wife, the couple assaulted him as well, leaving him critically injured. The accused then locked the injured elderly man in a room before turning their full fury on Savitri.
Gruesome Cover-Up Attempt
After killing Savitri, the couple embarked on a macabre mission to conceal their crime. Police officials stated that the accused chopped the elderly woman's body into several pieces. They then acquired a large suitcase and packed the dismembered body parts inside it. Their plan, as uncovered by the investigation, was to transport the suitcase to a remote location and dispose of it to evade detection.
However, their plot began to unravel due to the critical condition of Omkar Singh. The accused had locked him up, but he managed to raise an alarm. Neighbors, alerted by the commotion, informed the police. When authorities arrived at the scene, they found the injured Omkar Singh and launched an immediate search for Savitri.
