Mitch Evans Triumphs in Miami, Becomes Formula E's All-Time Win Leader
After a challenging start to the season with no points in the first two races, Mitch Evans has spectacularly returned to the podium. The Jaguar TCS Racing driver clinched his 15th victory in Formula E at the wet and wild Round 3 race held at the new Miami International Autodrome last weekend. This remarkable achievement places him at the top of the all-time winners list in the electric racing series.
Strategic Mastery in Wet Conditions
Mitch Evans emerged victorious at the Miami E-Prix by skillfully keeping the Porsche duo of Nico Muller and Pascal Wehrlein at bay. In an exclusive interview with FormulaE.com, Evans shared the strategy that led to his win. "Honestly, I wasn't expecting it after practice and qualifying just because we've been really struggling in the dry here," he admitted. "So when the rain came down, it was like, 'What am I going to have in these conditions?' and it's always a bit of an unknown when it rains."
Evans quickly realized his car's potential in the wet. "I knew from the first few laps that I had a really good car underneath me, and I just wanted to pick off some of the guys," he explained. "Then I caught up to the front pack, and they had all kind of done an Attack Mode, and I hadn't, so I knew I was in a really good position. Then I just had to execute it, not make mistakes, and then obviously get that move done on Nico [Muller]. So a really, really strong race."
Addressing Jaguar's Dry Condition Challenges
Despite the Miami success, Mitch Evans emphasized that Jaguar TCS Racing needs to resolve its pace issues in dry conditions. Following pointless races in Sao Paulo and Mexico City, the team has undergone a reset and is now energized for the upcoming Jeddah double-header. However, Evans highlighted a critical area for improvement.
"When you make those places up, it's always fun. I really felt like I had a good advantage over some people, so that always helps," he said. "I just had to try and be smart, play the long game, but the pace just made, in terms of strategy, life for us all easier. I wish I had that pace every race! Unfortunately, it's not possible most of the time, but full credit to the team. We should figure out what we need to do in the dry because I'm lacking something there, and it's really bizarre. All season has been tough."
Reflecting on a Decade in Formula E
Mitch Evans, who has remained loyal to one team since joining Formula E a decade ago, has faced ups and downs in his career. Season 11 was particularly tough; he won the first race in Sao Paulo but then endured a dry spell until securing another victory in Berlin as the season concluded. He finished 13th in the championship and is yet to claim a Formula E title in his ten-year career.
The New Zealander's consistency and dedication have made him a respected figure in the sport. His recent win in Miami not only marks a personal milestone but also underscores his resilience and strategic acumen. As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Evans and Jaguar TCS Racing to see if they can translate their wet-weather success into consistent performances across all conditions.
