Ghaziabad Fire Tragedy Claims Fourth Life as Young Woman Succumbs to Injuries

The death toll from a devastating fire at a five-storey residential building in Khoda, Ghaziabad, has tragically risen to four. A 22-year-old woman named Anjali died of her injuries on Tuesday, eight days after the blaze that also claimed the lives of her parents and elder sister.

Family Devastated by Fatal Blaze

Anjali had been fighting for her life at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, battling extensive burn injuries and severe smoke inhalation. Fire department personnel discovered her unconscious in a bedroom alongside her family members during the rescue operation that followed the late-night inferno.

Her parents, Rajendra and Meena, succumbed to their injuries on the same night of the fire, while her 26-year-old sister Neetu passed away on March 7. The family resided on the second floor of the ill-fated Sunehri Residency building.

Fire Spread Rapidly Through Residential Complex

The catastrophic blaze erupted around 11 PM on March 3, quickly engulfing the residential complex and trapping numerous occupants inside. According to official reports, the fire originated from a short circuit in the building's electrical panel located on the ground floor.

The flames rapidly spread to two-wheelers parked on the same floor, creating intense heat and filling stairwells and corridors with thick, toxic smoke that hampered evacuation efforts.

Widespread Damage and Multiple Injuries Reported

The fire caused extensive structural damage to the building and resulted in significant human and property losses:

  • At least 23 people sustained serious burn injuries and were rushed to multiple hospitals across Delhi-NCR for emergency treatment
  • Approximately 35 vehicles parked within the premises were completely destroyed by the intense flames
  • Nearly 40 families living in the complex have been displaced from their homes
  • Many residents lost their homes and personal belongings entirely and have since moved to temporary accommodations

Police Investigation Underway

Local police have registered a case against unidentified persons following the tragic incident and launched a comprehensive investigation. Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the fire's origin and spread through the residential building.

The Ghaziabad fire tragedy highlights ongoing concerns about fire safety measures in residential buildings across urban areas, particularly regarding electrical systems and emergency evacuation protocols. The incident has left the Khoda community in mourning while raising questions about building safety standards and enforcement.
