Tragic Scooter Accident Claims Life of Ghaziabad Shopkeeper
A 48-year-old man lost his life in a tragic road accident in Ghaziabad on Sunday night. The incident occurred when the victim, identified as Shankar Lal Garg, allegedly lost control of his scooter and fell into a drain on GT Road in the Patel Nagar area. The area falls under the jurisdiction of the Sihani Gate police station.
Police Investigation Points to Unusual Cause
Senior police officials, including the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) from Nandgram, along with municipal officers, visited the accident site to conduct a thorough investigation. They reviewed CCTV footage from nearby locations to piece together the events leading to the fatal fall.
Initial findings revealed no evidence of a collision with another vehicle. Furthermore, inspection of the scooter did not show any signs of impact from external objects. Based on these observations, police have put forward a preliminary theory.
Prima facie, investigators suspect that the scooter may have lost balance due to a plastic bucket placed on it, which could have led to the unfortunate fall into the drain. This unusual factor is now a key focus of the ongoing inquiry.
Timeline of the Incident and Rescue Attempt
Police received information about the accident at 11:54 AM on Monday. The report described an unidentified man who had fallen along with his scooter near the Royal Green Hotel in Patel Nagar. Passers-by had already taken the injured man to MMG Hospital before authorities arrived.
A preliminary inquiry identified a local resident, Ritesh Ghosh, as the first person to notice the accident scene. Ghosh observed a scooter lying on the roadside with its lights still illuminated. Upon checking, he discovered an injured man nearby.
With assistance from others at the scene, Ghosh helped shift the man to MMG Hospital and promptly informed the police. Despite these rescue efforts, the victim was declared dead upon arrival at the medical facility.
Victim Identified as Local Businessman
The deceased was officially identified as Shankar Lal Garg, a resident of Dasna Gate in Ghaziabad. His identity was confirmed by his elder brother, who provided crucial information to the investigating officers.
Through the scooter's registration details and statements from family members, police learned about Garg's daily routine. Family members informed authorities that Garg typically closed his shop at night, disposed of rubbish, visited the Shri Kesari Mata Temple for evening prayers, and then returned home. This routine likely placed him on GT Road at the time of the accident.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation
Police have initiated legal proceedings at MMG Hospital under the supervision of Sub-Inspector Pramod Kumar, who serves as the in-charge of the Patel Nagar police outpost. The case remains active with further investigation in progress.
Sub-Inspector Pramod Kumar stated, "Further investigation is in progress" regarding the circumstances surrounding Shankar Lal Garg's death. Authorities are examining all aspects of the case to determine the exact sequence of events that led to this fatal road accident.
The incident has highlighted road safety concerns in the area, particularly regarding how objects carried on two-wheelers might affect vehicle stability. Police continue to analyze evidence while the community mourns the loss of a local shopkeeper.
