A 25-year-old man was taken into custody on Tuesday after forcing his way into a residence in Khoda Colony and opening fire on two sisters, leaving them injured. According to police officials, the suspect had been scheduled to marry the elder sister, but the engagement was later broken off.
Incident Details
Deputy Commissioner of Police (trans-Hindon) Dhawal Jaiswal stated that Johnny had been engaged to Khushi (20) about a year and a half ago. However, a dispute arose between their families, leading to the engagement being terminated three months prior. Johnny allegedly attempted to contact Khushi on several occasions, but she refused to meet or speak with him.
At approximately 4:20 pm on Tuesday, Johnny forcibly entered Khushi's residence in Lodhi Chowk, Khoda Colony, where she resides with her sister Nidhi (18), their brother, and parents. He discharged his weapon at both sisters before fleeing the scene on his motorcycle. Khushi sustained three gunshot wounds to the abdomen, while Nidhi suffered injuries to her jaw and face.
Police Response
Law enforcement received a report of the shooting around 4:30 pm and dispatched a team to the location. The sisters' parents, who had rushed outside upon hearing the gunshots, transported them to a nearby hospital with the assistance of police officers. The victims were subsequently referred to a Delhi hospital for more advanced treatment. An official complaint was registered, and five police teams were formed to track down the suspect, who was apprehended at Sihani Gate three hours after the incident.
Accused's Video Statement
The DCP further revealed that Johnny recorded a 1-minute and 31-second video following the shooting. In the footage, he alleged that Khushi's family had taken Rs 2 lakh from him—money he had saved for the wedding—but called off the engagement when he requested its return. He also reportedly claimed in the video that he would surrender to the police.
