Ghaziabad Man Arrested After Double Murder and Police Shootout

A 38-year-old man in Ghaziabad has been arrested for allegedly shooting dead his wife and a male friend over suspicions of an extramarital affair, in a violent incident that escalated further when he opened fire on police officers during the recovery of the murder weapon.

Violent Confrontation at Tronica City Home

According to police reports, the accused, identified as Rashid, invited his friend and colleague Faheem (32) to dine with him and his wife, Shabnam (36), at their Tronica City residence on Monday evening. The three spent several hours together eating and smoking before tensions flared around midnight. During the ensuing argument, Rashid allegedly retrieved a country-made pistol from an almirah and opened fire.

The couple's seven-year-old son, who was in another room, reportedly entered after hearing raised voices and witnessed the shooting. Police stated that the child indicated his father first shot Faheem in the head before turning the gun on Shabnam.

Arrest and Dangerous Weapon Recovery Attempt

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Loni) Siddharth Gautam confirmed that Rashid was arrested from Rampark colony on Wednesday. During interrogation, he promised to lead police to the spot in a forest near Jain Colony, Harampur, where he had hidden the murder weapon. However, when officers took him to the location, Rashid opened fire on them with the same pistol.

"In retaliatory action, the police team shot Rashid in his right leg. He has been sent to the hospital for treatment," ACP Gautam stated.

Motive and Legal Proceedings

During questioning, Rashid claimed he had previously discovered Shabnam and Faheem in what he described as an objectionable position. He said he had asked both to end the affair, but they refused. Additionally, Shabnam wanted to sell their house since she was the owner, which Rashid felt left him with no alternative but to kill them.

Police have seized the murder weapon and one live cartridge. An FIR has been filed against Rashid under section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Two cases, including charges of murder, attempt to murder, and theft, have been registered at the Tronica City police station.

The incident highlights the tragic consequences of domestic disputes escalating into fatal violence, with the additional danger posed to law enforcement during investigation procedures.
