Ghaziabad: A 25-year-old man wanted for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl was shot at and arrested after a gunfight with police in Loni Border early on Monday. The accused, identified as Siraj, was on the run after the minor’s father filed a complaint on May 30, stating that his daughter had been raped three months earlier, leaving her pregnant.
Encounter Details
On Monday, a patrol unit from Loni Border police station was conducting checks on the Sevadhaam-Teelamod Road stretch when Siraj was spotted on a scooter. When officers moved to stop him, he opened fire and fled towards GDA Ground, police claimed. As cops chased and surrounded him, he fired again. Police fired back in self-defence, hitting Siraj in the right calf. He was taken to a nearby hospital and is stable.
Weapons Recovered
A country-made .315 bore pistol, one live cartridge, one spent cartridge case, and the scooter were recovered from him, said ACP Loni and Ankur Vihar Siddharth Gautam.
