Ghaziabad: Scooter-borne Men Fire Over 10 Rounds, Leave Threat

Ghaziabad: Two unidentified individuals on a scooter fired more than 10 rounds at a vacant house in Sahibabad on Monday evening. Police discovered a chit bearing the threat, 'Agli baari teri' (You are next) in the front yard of a neighbor's property. The house owner, Asha Rani, who resides in Delhi, has been pursuing a rent recovery case at the ADM court against her former tenant, Sanjay Gupta. Gupta vacated the premises three months ago after allegedly defaulting on rent for over 18 months.

Incident Details

Asha Rani's son, Sachin Kumar, filed a complaint at the Sahibabad police station. He told the police that around 11 pm on Monday, two unidentified men opened fire at their house. “I suspect our former tenant, Sanjay Gupta, is behind this. A piece of paper was found in the house of our neighbor, Bharat Singh, bearing a threat message,” he said.

Rent Dispute Background

Sachin stated that he had rented out the house to Sanjay Gupta in 2024. In 2025, when he asked Gupta to vacate, he refused and stopped paying rent. Sachin took the matter to the ADM court. Following a court order, Gupta vacated the house in March 2026. Sachin then filed a case for recovery of outstanding rent. “A hearing was scheduled for the case on Tuesday,” he added.

Eyewitnesses reported that the men fired several rounds in quick succession, causing panic in the area. A car parked near an adjacent house was also damaged. Police recovered 12 empty cartridges at the scene, and a forensic team collected evidence. Initial investigations link the incident to an old rivalry and the dispute over vacating the house.

Police Action

ACP Amit Saxena said information about the firing was received around 11 pm. Police contacted the house owner, Asha Rani, who lives in Shahdara. An FIR has been registered against Sanjay Gupta and unidentified persons under sections 125 (act endangering life or personal safety) and 351(2) (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the BNS. “Teams have been formed to nab the accused, and police are also checking CCTV cameras in nearby areas,” he said.
