GHAZIABAD: A man accused of fatally stabbing a Class 11 student in Ghaziabad was shot dead in a police encounter on Sunday, officers confirmed. The accused, identified as Asad, was wanted in connection with the stabbing of Surya Chauhan, a teenager who was attacked during an altercation on Thursday and later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Arrests and Manhunt
Police reported that three of the five accused named in the case have already been arrested, while efforts are underway to trace the remaining two suspects. Asad had been absconding since the incident, and a reward of Rs 50,000 had been announced for information leading to his arrest.
"An incident occurred on Thursday, in which Surya Chauhan was stabbed by an individual named Asad, who died during treatment. Based on a complaint filed by his family, a police station registered a case against five people," police said in a statement.
Encounter Details
"A case was registered in Khoda under relevant sections, and swift action was taken, resulting in the arrest of the three main accused. Asad, the main accused in this incident, was absconding, and a reward of Rs 50,000 had been announced by the police team," the statement added.
"Today, the police team received information that Asad was going to meet some of his friends in the Khoda police station area and was planning to escape after taking some money from them. Based on this information, the entire team combed the area and set up checkpoints," officials added.
"In this sequence, Asad and one of his friends arrived on a bike. The police team attempted to stop them and issued warnings, but instead of stopping, they opened fire on the police team. In the retaliatory fire, police fired in self-defence, and Asad was shot. He was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. During the exchange of fire, one of our constables was also injured and has been taken to the hospital. Asad's bike has been recovered, and the pistol he used to fire has also been recovered. The police are conducting a thorough investigation of the entire incident and taking further legal action," officials said.
Asad was taken to hospital after being injured in the exchange of fire, where he was declared dead. The injured constable is receiving treatment, according to officials.
