The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has recommended that the airport director at Dabolim hand over a total of 311.6 square meters of space within the multi-level car parking building to the police department. The commission took suo motu cognisance of a news report highlighting the poor working conditions of police personnel at the Dabolim airport police station and traffic cell, which currently operate from porta cabins with a total built-up area of 182 square meters.
Initial Recommendation
In November last year, the commission recommended that the airport director of Goa International Airport hand over an area measuring 190 square meters at basement level 1 of the multi-level car parking building to the Director General of Police (DGP) within 30 days.
Additional Space Demanded
Following an inspection, the commission also requested an additional area of 121.6 square meters at basement level 1, opposite the earlier allocated space, to be handed over by the airport director to the DGP.
The commission’s acting chairperson, Desmond D’Costa, and member Pramod V Kamat stated that the DGP should take steps to provide the necessary facilities for the police personnel.
