Goa Court Orders Fresh Medical Exam for Luthra Brothers After Deportation
Goa Court Orders New Medical Exam for Luthra Brothers

A court in North Goa has directed a fresh medical examination for Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra, the co-owners of the 'Birch by Romeo Lane' nightclub. This order came on Wednesday, just a day after the brothers were brought to Goa from Delhi following their deportation from Thailand. They are facing serious charges in connection with a devastating fire that claimed 25 lives.

Arrest and Transit from Delhi

The Luthra brothers were arrested on Tuesday immediately after landing in Delhi. Their return to India was the result of a deportation from Thailand, linked to the tragic fire incident on December 6. A court in Delhi granted the Goa Police a two-day transit remand, allowing them to bring the accused to Goa for legal proceedings.

Medical Complaints and Court Proceedings

Upon arrival at Manohar International Airport in Mopa, Goa, the duo was initially taken to a Primary Health Centre in Siolim for a check-up. During this examination, one of the brothers reported experiencing chest pain and uneasiness. Following this, acting on a court order, they were transferred to the District Hospital in Mapusa for further evaluation.

After spending over an hour at the district hospital, the brothers were taken to the Anjuna police station, located approximately 10 kilometers away. They were subsequently produced before a court, which then issued the order for a fresh medical examination.

The Case and International Manhunt

The Anjuna police had registered a case against Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra after the deadly fire broke out in Arpora village. The charges filed against them are severe, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Investigations revealed that the brothers had fled India for Phuket, Thailand, on December 7, merely hours after the fire occurred. In response, Indian authorities canceled their passports and issued an Interpol Blue Corner Notice to locate them. The Thai officials detained the brothers on December 11 after a formal arrest request from the Indian government. Their deportation was carried out under the existing legal treaties between India and Thailand.

In this case, the police have so far arrested five managers and staff members of the nightclub. The fresh medical examination of the Luthra brothers marks a new step in the ongoing investigation into one of Goa's most tragic incidents.
