The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) Goa Special Task Force has successfully traced nine foreign nationals who were found to be overstaying their visas in the coastal state of Goa. This operation is part of a broader initiative to ensure compliance with immigration laws and maintain security protocols.
Breakdown of Nationalities and Current Status
Of the nine individuals identified, seven are Russian nationals, which includes two minors, and two are Ukrainian nationals. This mix highlights the diverse international presence in Goa, a popular tourist destination. In terms of resolution, two of the Russian nationals have already departed from India, adhering to the legal requirements.
For the remaining seven individuals, applications for exit permits and visa conversions have been formally submitted and are currently under active review by the authorities. The FRRO is working diligently to process these cases in a timely manner, ensuring that all procedures are followed correctly to avoid any legal complications.
Ongoing Efforts and Legal Compliance
The Goa police have emphasized that their efforts to trace such overstaying cases are ongoing and aim to be comprehensive, effective, and fully compliant with the law. This drive is not a one-time event but part of a sustained campaign to monitor and regulate the stay of foreign nationals in the region.
To bolster these efforts, accommodators, including hotels and other lodging providers, have been instructed to submit detailed information about their foreign guests within 24 hours of check-in. Additionally, they must update departure records within the same timeframe to ensure real-time tracking and accountability.
Penal Actions and Applicable Rules
Violations of these regulations may lead to penal actions under the relevant laws, underscoring the seriousness with which the authorities are treating this issue. The police have clarified that these rules apply not only to regular foreign nationals but also to Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card holders and minors, ensuring no exceptions are made.
