Goa High Court Mandates Timely Completion of Court Infrastructure Projects
In a significant development concerning judicial infrastructure in Goa, the state government has informed the High Court that work orders for installing air conditioning systems in courts located in Mapusa, Pernem, Bicholim, and Valpoi were officially issued on March 10. The government has assured the court that these installations will be fully completed within a strict timeframe of 45 days from the issuance date.
Court Directs Regular Progress Updates
The High Court has taken a proactive stance by calling for detailed progress reports on these infrastructure upgrades to be presented at the next hearing. Should any work remain pending, the court has explicitly directed the government to provide a clear and definitive date by which the completion is guaranteed. This move underscores the judiciary's commitment to ensuring that court facilities meet modern standards for the comfort and efficiency of legal proceedings.
Focus on South Goa District Court Annex Building
Regarding the South Goa district and sessions court annex building, the court noted that the scheduled completion date for ongoing work is December 2025. To ensure transparency and accountability, the High Court has ordered that a comprehensive progress report be submitted at the next hearing. This report must include:
- A detailed bar chart specifying the exact amount of work that has been completed to date.
- A clear outline of the remaining tasks that are still pending and require attention.
Furthermore, the court has directed the assistant engineer from sub division-2 (building) in South Margao to formally record the following details:
- The specific work that needs to be completed to bring the building up to functional standards.
- A precise timeline within which this remaining work will be finished.
- An assurance that the building will be handed over to the district court in a fully operational and functional state, ready for immediate use.
Government Initiatives for Parking Infrastructure
In addition to the air conditioning and building work, the government has also addressed the issue of parking facilities near the courts. Officials have informed the High Court that the process of acquiring land adjacent to the court premises for parking purposes is currently underway. The government has committed to providing the court with a specific date by which a formal notification for this land acquisition will be issued, with this update to be delivered at the next scheduled hearing.
This series of directives from the Goa High Court highlights a concerted effort to enhance the physical infrastructure of the judiciary, ensuring that courts are equipped with essential amenities like air conditioning and adequate parking, thereby improving the overall efficiency and accessibility of the legal system in the region.
