Drunk Driver from Goa Crashes on Mumbai-Goa Highway
In a late-night incident that could have ended in tragedy, a 45-year-old man from Goa was officially booked by the Panvel City police for drunk driving and causing a significant accident. The event occurred on the Mumbai-Goa highway in the early hours of Saturday, around 12:20 am.
The Crash and Its Immediate Aftermath
The accused, identified as Kishan Hosotikar, was driving his car towards his home state of Goa when he lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off and crashed directly into the pole of an electric transformer located near the Patil Snacks Corner hotel at the Sangurli phata junction in Panvel.
Miraculously, the crash did not result in any human casualties. However, the impact was severe enough to badly mangle the accused's car. The collision also caused substantial damage to public property, including the electrical transformer pole itself, the protective safety wire mesh surrounding it, and the cement construction at the base of the pole.
Legal Action and Police Proceedings
API Pradnya Munde, who is handling the case, reported that the driver was visibly intoxicated at the scene. To confirm this, a medical test was conducted by collecting a blood sample at the Panvel sub-district hospital.
The legal process was initiated after Kailas Tawale (39), the manager of Patil Snacks Corner, filed a formal complaint. Tawale stated that the damaged transformer was installed by the hotel. Based on this complaint, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against Hosotikar.
The charges have been filed under relevant sections of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) and the Motor Vehicle Act for rash and negligent driving under the influence of alcohol and for causing damage to property.
In accordance with the legal provisions, the accused was not immediately arrested. Instead, he was served with a formal notice under the BNSS (Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita) section. This notice mandates that he must remain present for police inquiries whenever summoned and appear during the court trial.
