Goa Police Register Case Against Six in Parra Assault and Vandalism Incident

In a recent development from North Goa, the Calangute police have taken legal action by booking six individuals in connection with a violent altercation that occurred in Parra. The incident, which took place on Wednesday, has led to charges against three residents of Saligao and three other unidentified persons for their alleged involvement in assaulting a group from Guirim.

Details of the Complaint and Alleged Assault

According to police reports, the complaint was lodged by Abdul Munaf Makandar, a 21-year-old resident of Guirim. Makandar stated that on January 21, at approximately 2:30 PM near Maddani in Parra, he and his friends, Sohil Gaus Khan Inamdar and Mithun Sanju Rathod, were targeted in an attack stemming from a personal dispute. The accused individuals, identified as Raunak Korgaonkar, Dattaram Harmalkar, and Kenrick Rodrigues, all hailing from Saligao, along with three others whose identities remain unknown, are alleged to have initiated the confrontation.

Police investigations reveal that the accused not only used abusive language but also physically assaulted Makandar and his companions. The assault involved slaps, fist blows, and the use of a metal baton, resulting in injuries to the victims. This violent episode has raised concerns about public safety in the area.

Property Damage and Financial Losses Incurred

Beyond the physical assault, the incident escalated to significant property damage. Makandar's vehicle was reportedly vandalized, causing him a financial loss estimated at around Rs 1 lakh. Additionally, Inamdar suffered damage to his mobile phone and wristwatch, with losses amounting to approximately Rs 20,000, while Rathod's mobile handset, valued at about Rs 10,000, was also destroyed. The total estimated loss from the vandalism exceeds Rs 1.3 lakh, highlighting the severe impact of the altercation.

The police have registered an offence under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code to address both the assault and the vandalism. Authorities are continuing their efforts to identify and apprehend the three unnamed suspects involved in this case. This incident underscores ongoing issues related to personal disputes and violence in the region, prompting calls for increased vigilance and law enforcement measures.
