Goa Police's PRISM System Proves Effective in Criminal Investigations

In a significant development, the newly implemented Pro-Active Risk Identification and Surveillance Mechanism (PRISM) has enabled the Goa police to successfully trace an accused in an alleged narcotics case and identify a suspect involved in an assault on a foreign national. This advanced system operates as the intelligence fusion centre and continuous watch unit of the Goa police, based at the crime branch in Ribandar.

Narcotics Case Breakthrough Through PRISM Analysis

In a narcotics case registered at the crime branch, the investigating officer sought assistance from the fusion centre to analyze the linkages of a Nigerian national who was the primary accused. Crime branch SP Rahul Gupta explained that PRISM conducted a detailed technical and analytical examination, utilizing mobile phone data, CDR analysis, and other parameters provided by the officer.

The intelligence generated through PRISM led to the identification and tracking of a second accused, who was subsequently arrested. Gupta emphasized that the mechanism is actively pursuing intelligence to trace the source of narcotics supply to the accused, with ongoing efforts to identify and take action against the supplier.

Assault Case Resolution with Rapid Technical Verification

In a separate incident, the Canacona police station requested help to identify a two-wheeler used by a suspect in an assault on a foreign national. While preliminary vehicle identification was done at the police station level, PRISM undertook rapid technical verification and linkage analysis.

It was discovered that the vehicle belonged to Sada Velip of Quepem, and further intelligence inputs identified his son, Rohan Velip. His photograph was shared with the SDPO Canacona, who confirmed him as the suspect involved in the assault case, leading to his arrest.

PRISM as a Force Multiplier for Goa Police

SP Rahul Gupta highlighted that these cases demonstrate the effectiveness of PRISM in integrating technology to fast-track investigations. Within a short period since its launch, PRISM has emerged as a force multiplier for district police units, aiding in identifying criminal networks, analyzing linkages, and enabling swift, focused police action.

The centre accelerates investigations by employing technical and analytical tools, along with data-driven tracking processes, showcasing its critical role in enhancing law enforcement capabilities in Goa.
