Goa Curchorem Sex Scandal Case Transferred to Crime Branch, Three FIRs Filed

The alleged sex scandal case in Curchorem, Goa, which was initially under investigation by local police, was officially transferred to the state crime branch on Tuesday. This significant development marks an escalation in the probe into the disturbing allegations.

Multiple FIRs Registered in the Case

A total of three First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed in connection with the scandal, with statements from two survivors already recorded by authorities. The investigation has revealed a crucial detail: both the accused individuals and the survivors were minors at the time the alleged incidents occurred.

This development follows the recent arrest of 20-year-old Soham Sushant Naik, a resident of Madhegal, Cacora. Naik faces serious allegations of sexually exploiting several minor victims, recording obscene videos of the acts, and circulating this material on the internet.

Political Connections and Public Outcry

Soham Naik's father, Sushant Naik, serves as a councillor of the Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council, adding a political dimension to the case. The arrest came after substantial public pressure, with local residents gathering outside the Curchorem police station on Sunday evening demanding immediate action against the accused.

South Goa Superintendent of Police Santosh Desai confirmed that while one case was initially registered, two additional cases were filed on Monday. "Investigations are being conducted from all angles," Desai stated, emphasizing the comprehensive nature of the probe.

Ongoing Investigation Details

Soham Naik, identified as the prime suspect, is currently undergoing interrogation. Authorities are also questioning several other individuals believed to be connected to the case. Deputy Inspector General of Police Varsha Sharma visited the Curchorem police station to review the investigation's progress.

"Based on the statement of the survivor, two more FIRs have been registered," Sharma revealed. "The first FIR is registered on behalf of the state."

Sharma provided additional context about the timeline, noting that "the incidents took place around three years back when the accused and the survivors were in college." Regarding evidence, she clarified that "in video clips, there is no presence of survivors, and the mobile of the accused will be sent for forensic examination."

Legal Framework and Political Reactions

The cases against Soham Naik have been filed under multiple legal provisions:

  • The Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita
  • The Information Technology Act
  • The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act
  • The Goa Children's Act

Naik was remanded to four-day police custody by the local court on Monday. DIG Sharma addressed concerns about political interference, stating firmly, "There is no political pressure on us and based on complaints we will register the FIRs."

Political Criticism from AAP Leader

Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal launched a strong criticism against the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday regarding the Curchorem sex scandal. Kejriwal demanded the harshest possible punishment for the accused and justice for the survivors.

He accused the BJP of shielding the son of one of its councillors, who allegedly sexually exploited approximately 30 minor girls over three years, filming the acts and blackmailing the victims. "BJP has turned people's lives in Goa into hell. Everyone is living under the shadow of fear," Kejriwal asserted.

The Delhi Chief Minister insisted that "the guilty be dealt with sternly" and warned that "those in office must not protect such offenders." He concluded with a stark warning: "Protecting such monsters is fatal for society. No demon should even think of doing this again."

The case continues to develop as the crime branch takes over the investigation, with authorities examining forensic evidence and pursuing all leads to ensure comprehensive justice in this sensitive matter involving minor victims.
