Ponda police on Saturday arrested Suhana Naik, a 36-year-old woman from Bhandarwada-Amona, for allegedly defrauding three individuals from a single family of Rs 18 lakh under the pretext of securing them jobs in the health department.
Details of the Fraud
According to police officials, Naik was employed on a contractual basis in a government department. She leveraged her network of contacts to approach residents of Usgao, promising them positions in the health department. The victims were offered roles as a homeopathic doctor, a driver, and a clerk. Believing her claims, they handed over the demanded money.
Failure to Deliver and Legal Action
When Naik failed to fulfill her promises, the victims filed a complaint with the police. Following an investigation, Naik was arrested and subsequently remanded to six days of police custody. A police official stated, “The three believed her, and gave the money she demanded. When she failed to deliver on her promise, they filed a police complaint.”
