Gold Theft Gang Member Arrested in Odisha, Stolen Jewellery Recovered

In a significant breakthrough, a key accused involved in a gold jewellery theft case in Bokaro has been apprehended from his residence in Nuapada district, Odisha, as confirmed by police on Sunday. The arrest marks a crucial step in dismantling an organised criminal network targeting jewellery shops across the region.

Details of the Theft and Investigation

The case originated from a complaint filed by Rajendra Prasad Das of Petarwar on March 29 at the Bermo police station. Das reported the theft of gold ornaments valued at approximately Rs 15 lakh from his jewellery shop located in Phusro Bazar. This incident followed a similar case previously registered at the Chandrapura police station, leading investigators to suspect a coordinated gang employing distraction techniques to steal from shopkeepers.

Bokaro Superintendent of Police Harvinder Singh stated that through meticulous analysis of CCTV footage, call detail records, and advanced technical surveillance, a joint team from the Bermo and Chandrapura police units successfully traced the accused to Odisha. The collaborative effort underscores the effectiveness of modern investigative methods in tackling organised crime.

Confession and Recovery of Stolen Items

The arrested individual, identified as Nisar Ali, also known as Kala, confessed to executing jewellery thefts alongside an associate. Their modus operandi involved engaging shopkeepers in conversation to create a distraction before making off with valuable ornaments. Police have recovered stolen gold items, including chains and earrings weighing around 65.19 grams, with an estimated worth of Rs 8 lakh, along with a mobile phone used in the crimes.

Authorities revealed that Ali has a prior criminal history and was previously incarcerated in Koraput jail, highlighting his involvement in illicit activities. The recovery of the stolen jewellery provides some relief to the victims and aids in building a stronger case against the accused.

Ongoing Efforts and Broader Implications

Further investigation is actively underway to identify and apprehend other members of the gang, as police work to completely dismantle this organised network. The arrest not only addresses the immediate theft cases but also sends a strong message about law enforcement's commitment to curbing such crimes in the region.

This development serves as a reminder for jewellery shop owners to enhance security measures and remain vigilant against potential distraction tactics. The successful operation demonstrates the importance of inter-district cooperation and technological tools in modern policing.
