Pudukottai: The Goondas Act was imposed on two men in connection with the abduction and gangrape of a 35-year-old speech and visually impaired woman in Pudukkottai district. The accused, identified as S Marimuthu, 55, and A Sekar, 55, were shifted to Trichy Central prison on Wednesday.
Details of the Incident
The survivor, a daily-wage labourer employed at a private rice mill near Alangudi, was abducted while waiting for a bus at Pachchikottai. The accused forced her into a car and sexually assaulted her before abandoning her near Manakkollai village. Local residents found her and alerted the police, who shifted her to a government hospital.
Legal Action Taken
Marimuthu was arrested shortly after the incident, while Sekar was apprehended following a search operation. The district police invoked the preventive detention law under the Goondas Act, citing the gravity of the offence and concerns over public order.
This case highlights the vulnerability of differently-abled individuals and the need for stricter enforcement of laws to ensure their safety. The accused now face legal proceedings under the stringent provisions of the Goondas Act.
