Gopalganj Police Dismiss Constable's Viral Gun-Snatching Video as Baseless
In a significant development from Patna, the Gopalganj police have officially refuted claims made in a viral video by a constable alleging that his service gun was snatched and he was threatened. Authorities issued a detailed statement on Thursday, categorically labeling the constable's assertions as baseless and without merit.
Police Clarify Gun Was Seized Due to Mental Health Concerns
According to the police statement, the service pistol of Constable Sunil Kumar, who was posted at the Manjhagarh police station, was not snatched but was formally seized and deposited in the police lines' armoury on January 30. This action was taken after he exhibited clear signs of mental instability and aggressive behavior over a period of time.
The then Station House Officer (SHO) Rajeev Kumar documented the constable's condition in the station diary, noting sudden irritability and psychological distress. To prevent any potential untoward incident, the government-issued pistol in his possession was safely secured and stored, as per standard protocol.
Constable Sent on Leave Before Circulating Video
Following the seizure of his firearm, Constable Sunil Kumar was promptly sent on leave to address his health issues. However, in a subsequent move, he created and circulated a video on social media, which quickly went viral, making false allegations about the incident.
Sadar SDPO-II Rajesh Kumar emphasized that "the constable appeared mentally unwell and was using an objectionable tone towards officers during this period." He further stated that a thorough investigation revealed no concrete evidence to support the claims made in the video, reinforcing the police's stance that the allegations are entirely unfounded.
