Man Apprehended in Gorakhpur for Assault and Attempted Rape Case

In a disturbing incident in Gorakhpur, a man has been arrested for forcibly entering the residence of a 20-year-old woman, physically assaulting her, and attempting to commit rape. The event unfolded in the Shahpur locality, with police confirming the arrest on Monday.

Details of the Assault and Police Response

The accused, identified as Rahmat Ali, targeted the woman on March 5 when she was alone at home. Her mother had stepped out to exchange Holi greetings with a neighbor, leaving the survivor vulnerable. According to the police report, Ali entered the house and began molesting the woman. When she tried to raise an alarm, he gagged her to silence her cries and proceeded to attempt rape.

Hearing the commotion, the woman's mother rushed back into the house. Upon seeing her, the accused fled the scene immediately. Before escaping, he issued threats to both the woman and her mother, warning them of severe consequences if they reported the incident to anyone.

Delayed Complaint and Legal Action

Fearing retaliation, the survivor waited for three days before gathering the courage to approach the authorities. She finally visited the Shahpur police station on Sunday and submitted a detailed written complaint. Based on her account, the police promptly registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Rahmat Ali.

Swift action followed, with law enforcement arresting the accused on Monday. Circle Officer Gorakhnath Ravi Kumar Singh stated that the arrest was made in response to the formal complaint, underscoring the police's commitment to addressing such serious crimes in the community.

This case highlights ongoing concerns about safety and the challenges survivors face in reporting assaults promptly. The police have assured that the investigation is ongoing to ensure justice is served.
