Gorakhpur Police Crack Major LED Bulb Theft, Arrest Truck Driver with Rs 45 Lakh Consignment

In a significant breakthrough, the Gorakhpur city police on Monday successfully busted a high-value theft case involving LED bulbs worth over Rs 45 lakh. The authorities arrested the truck driver, Gulshan Shah Kanu, who allegedly absconded with the consignment, and seized 352 sealed cartons of the stolen goods.

Swift Action by Cantt Police and SWAT Team

The accused, identified as Gulshan Shah Kanu, a resident of Mainatar in West Champaran district of Bihar, was apprehended by the Cantt police in collaboration with the SWAT team. Superintendent of Police (City) Nimesh Dashrath Patil detailed that Kanu was transporting the LED bulbs when he allegedly misappropriated the entire shipment.

According to police reports, the complainant's transport operations were managed through Maruti International Transport, located near Thuthibari crossing in Maharajganj. The consignment, which comprised 374 cartons of LED bulbs weighing approximately 3.18 tonnes, was originally loaded at Faridabad–Palwal in Haryana. It was intended for delivery to Kathmandu via the Sonauli route.

Deceptive Tactics and False Claims

Investigations revealed that the truck driver had received Rs 80,000 as freight charges after loading the goods. Subsequently, Kanu informed the transporter that the truck had developed a mechanical fault. He claimed it was parked in the GIDA area and requested an additional Rs 20,000 for repairs.

However, when the complainant's husband arrived at the specified location, neither the truck nor the driver was present. The accused had also switched off his mobile phone, further complicating the search efforts.

FIR Registered and Conspiracy Uncovered

Following the complaint, an FIR was registered at the Cantt police station under section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). During the course of the investigation, police uncovered that the driver had allegedly conspired with an accomplice to steal the valuable goods.

The seizure of 352 cartons of LED bulbs marks a crucial recovery in this case, though some items remain unaccounted for from the original 374 cartons. This incident highlights the challenges in logistics security and the proactive measures taken by law enforcement to combat such crimes.
