Gorakhpur Police Announces Cash Reward for Arrest of Accused in Teacher Suicide Case
In a significant development in the tragic case of a teacher's suicide, the Gorakhpur Police on Saturday announced a cash reward of Rs 10,000 each for information leading to the arrest of two key absconding accused. The individuals sought are Shalini Srivastava, the suspended Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) of Deoria, and clerk Sanjeev Singh. Both are facing serious charges of abetment to suicide in the death of teacher Krishna Mohan Singh, aged 37.
Police Form Special Teams for Extensive Raids
Gorakhpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kaustubh revealed that four dedicated special teams have been constituted to conduct coordinated raids across multiple districts. These teams are actively searching locations in Deoria, Ballia, Lucknow, and Prayagraj to locate and apprehend the two accused, who have been evading arrest since the case was officially registered.
Background of the Case and Allegations
The First Information Report (FIR) was lodged on February 22 at the Gulriha police station in Gorakhpur, based on a complaint filed by the deceased teacher's wife, Gudiya Singh. In her complaint, she accused Shalini Srivastava, clerk Sanjeev Singh, and a retired headmaster named Anirudh Singh of collectively abetting her husband's suicide through persistent threats and harassment.
The complainant alleged that the accused officials demanded a staggering sum of Rs 16 lakh from Krishna Mohan Singh, purportedly in exchange for restoring his teaching appointment. This continuous pressure and intimidation allegedly drove the teacher to take the extreme step of ending his own life.
Previous Arrest and Evidence Recovery
Police authorities had earlier successfully arrested the third accused in the case, retired headmaster Anirudh Singh. In a crucial breakthrough, investigators also recovered a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) from the official residence of the suspended Basic Shiksha Adhikari, Shalini Srivastava.
Officials examining the footage confirmed that Krishna Mohan Singh was present at the BSA office on February 20, along with two other individuals identified as Aparna Tiwari and Omkar Singh. This evidence is considered vital in establishing the timeline and interactions leading up to the tragic incident.
The announcement of the cash reward underscores the police department's intensified efforts to bring the absconding accused to justice and ensure a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the teacher's suicide. The case has drawn significant public attention, highlighting issues of corruption and harassment within the education system.
