A shocking incident of familial violence has rocked Raikheda village in Rae Bareli district, where a 60-year-old woman was brutally hacked to death by her own grandson on Tuesday morning. The victim, identified as Tarawati, had lodged a formal police complaint against her grandson just one day prior to the attack, alleging persistent abuse and threats to her life.

The tragic incident occurred while Tarawati was engaged in her daily morning routine, washing utensils outside her modest village home. Her grandson, 25-year-old Sonu Gautam, who resided directly opposite her house, approached her wielding a sharp axe. Without warning, he launched a vicious assault, striking her multiple times on the neck and head with the weapon. The attack was so severe that Tarawati succumbed to her injuries immediately at the scene.
Chaotic Aftermath and Heroic Intervention
Following the murder, Sonu Gautam reportedly roamed through the village streets brandishing the bloodied axe, creating panic among residents. He then allegedly turned his attention toward Tarawati's daughter-in-law, Priya, attempting to attack her as well. The situation could have escalated further if not for the courageous intervention of a local villager named Dharmraj, who managed to wrest the deadly weapon from the accused's hands, preventing additional casualties.
Police Response and Family Dynamics
Police teams from both Shivgarh and Bachhrawan stations responded swiftly to emergency calls, rushing to the village scene where they apprehended Sonu Gautam. Senior Superintendent of Police Yashveer Singh confirmed that a First Information Report has been registered not only against Sonu but also against his brothers Neeraj and Dheeraj, along with their father Rajkumar. The victim's body has been sent for postmortem examination as legal proceedings continue.
