GST Superintendent and Tax Consultant Arrested for Rs 20 Lakh Bribe in Rajkot
GST Superintendent, Tax Consultant Held for Rs 20 Lakh Bribe

Rajkot: In a significant anti-corruption operation, a superintendent of the central GST department and a tax consultant were arrested in Rajkot on Tuesday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20 lakh. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) laid the trap at Creative Complex, located behind the GSRTC depot.

According to the ACB, the action followed a complaint from a citizen who alleged that GST superintendent Mukeshkumar Manbodh Kumar (43) had demanded Rs 25 lakh to settle a case related to alleged GST non-payment and the generation of bogus invoices. After negotiations, the bribe amount was reportedly reduced to Rs 20 lakh, with the payment to be routed through tax consultant Akash Kaloliya (33). Unwilling to comply, the complainant approached the ACB.

Acting on the complaint, the ACB team set a trap on Tuesday night. During the operation, Kaloliya was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 20 lakh from the complainant on behalf of the superintendent. Both Kumar and Kaloliya were immediately apprehended, and the entire bribe amount was seized. A case has been registered against the duo under relevant anti-corruption laws, and further investigation is underway.
