Guitarist Booked for Negligence in Pune Wife's Death

In a tragic turn of events, the Pune city police have formally booked a guitarist on charges of negligence nearly a month after his wife died in a road accident. The incident, which occurred on January 2, has led to legal action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, highlighting concerns over road safety in the city.

Details of the Accident

According to police reports, the accident took place around 2.40 pm at Vegetable Market Chowk in the Uttam Nagar area of Pune. Sherly Anthony, a 37-year-old resident of Kondhwa Gate, was riding as a pillion on a motorcycle driven by her husband, identified as Robin. The couple's motorcycle reportedly slipped while overtaking a truck, leading to Sherly being run over by the truck. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Police Investigation and Charges

Sub-inspector Chetan Dhanawade stated that the initial probe revealed negligent driving as the cause of the mishap. An offence has been registered against Robin under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 106(1) for causing death by negligence, along with sections 281 and 125(b), and relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. Robin, who is a guitarist and had relocated to Pune from Jabalpur approximately three months prior, sustained minor injuries in the accident. He has not been arrested as of now, with further investigation ongoing.

The case was filed based on a complaint by policeman Sachin Gaikwad, and initially, an accidental death report was registered at the Uttam Nagar police station. This development underscores the legal repercussions of negligent driving in fatal road incidents.

Separate Road Accident Involving PMPML Bus

In a related but separate incident, the Pune police also reported another road accident involving a Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus. On Friday evening around 9.15 pm, a speeding PMPML bus knocked down an elderly woman near Bremen Chowk in Aundh. The victim, identified as Chandrakala Dnyanoba Wavhal, a 75-year-old resident of Indira Vasahat on Ganeshkhind Road, was crossing the road at the time.

Legal Action in Bus Accident

Sub-inspector Manisha Jadhav confirmed that the bus driver, Pandurang Raymale, was arrested under similar Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 281, 125(b), and 106, along with Motor Vehicles Act provisions. He was later released on bail by the court. The complaint in this case was filed by the victim's neighbour, Prabhavati Bhosale, aged 74, at the Chaturshringi police station.

These back-to-back incidents in Pune have sparked discussions on road safety measures and the enforcement of traffic laws. Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution to prevent such tragedies in the future.
