Police Constable Faces Allegations of Public Assault and Intimidation in Ahmedabad Village
A disturbing incident involving a police officer allegedly creating a public disturbance, verbally abusing, and physically assaulting a man has come to light in Gujarat's Ahmedabad district. The episode, which occurred on Sunday night in Kuha village under Daskroi taluka, was captured on video and subsequently went viral across various social media platforms, sparking widespread concern.
Complaint Filed Against Constable After Viral Video Surfaces
The victim, identified as 32-year-old Ketan Zala, a resident of Kuha village, has formally lodged a complaint against police constable Deepak Damor, who is currently posted at the Kanbha police station. According to Zala's detailed account in the complaint, the confrontation unfolded around 8 PM when he visited a local fast food outlet to purchase meals for his daughters.
While waiting for his order, Zala noticed a silver car pulling up nearby. The driver of the vehicle began honking the horn incessantly, causing a disturbance. At the urging of the shopkeeper, Zala approached the car and politely requested the driver to either cease the honking or step out to collect his order. This simple request allegedly triggered a heated argument.
Alleged Threats and Physical Altercation
During the escalating confrontation, the driver, later identified as Constable Deepak Damor, reportedly claimed his status as a police official. He is accused of threatening Zala with imprisonment. The situation deteriorated further when Damor, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol according to Zala's complaint, allegedly reached out from inside the car and grabbed Zala's shirt.
A physical struggle ensued, resulting in Zala's shirt being torn as he attempted to pull away. In the course of the scuffle, Damor reportedly fell out of the vehicle but continued the verbal altercation. As local residents began to gather at the scene, witnessing the commotion, Damor is said to have abandoned his car and fled the location.
Discovery of Liquor Bottles and Police Investigation
Following the constable's departure, Zala and other villagers inspected the abandoned vehicle. Their search allegedly revealed two liquor bottles on the rear seat and an empty bottle in the car's boot. The car was subsequently confirmed to be registered in Deepak Damor's name.
In response to the formal complaint, police authorities have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to prohibition violations and criminal intimidation. Official investigations are now underway to verify several critical aspects of the incident.
- Determining whether Constable Damor was indeed under the influence of alcohol during the altercation.
- Investigating if the possession of liquor found in the vehicle constitutes a violation of state prohibition laws.
- Examining the full circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and intimidation.
The viral nature of the video has intensified public scrutiny, placing significant pressure on law enforcement to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation. This incident raises serious questions about police conduct and accountability, particularly when officers are accused of violating the very laws they are sworn to uphold.
