Four Police Officers Assaulted by Mob in Gujarat Village During Night Patrol
In a disturbing incident that unfolded in the early hours of Friday, four policemen were allegedly assaulted by a mob in Batakwada village, located in Mahisagar district of Gujarat. The officers were on a critical night patrol mission due to the ongoing local body elections when the violent confrontation occurred.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Assault
The policemen were conducting their patrol in a private vehicle when they spotted two individuals on a motorcycle near a junction on the Batakwada-Fatepura road. The men were carrying a suspicious item in a fertilizer bag, which immediately raised alarms. When the officers attempted to flag them down for questioning, the duo refused to stop and instead accelerated away.
Growing increasingly suspicious, the police team decided to follow the motorcycle. The pursuit led them to Batakwada village, where the two men abandoned their motorcycle near a river on the outskirts and hastily entered the village. The four policemen—identified as Head Constables Jitendra Motibhai and Mahendrasinh Jaysinh, along with Constables Dinesh Dhanabhai and Chirag Balwantsinh—proceeded into the village to locate the suspects.
Violent Confrontation with the Mob
While searching for the two suspicious individuals, the officers were suddenly confronted by a group of 15 to 20 men from the village. The mob aggressively alleged that the policemen were harassing the local youths, leading to a heated argument that quickly escalated into physical violence.
The policemen were assaulted by the mob, but in a moment of quick thinking, one of the officers managed to call the Santrampur police station for urgent assistance. Personnel from the station immediately rushed to Batakwada and successfully rescued the four policemen from the hostile crowd.
